Miner's lettuce

One of spring's first edible wild leafy greens has sprung in Coast Salish Territory! Botanically known as Claytonia perfoliata, Miner's Lettuce is a self-seeding annual that grows easily in partially sunny or shady areas. Its tender, heart-shaped leaves make a lovely addition to salads, and it's an awesome groundcover plant. Clusters of leaf disks with small white or pinkish flowers make shiny black seeds that will sow and grow the following spring.
What do you love about Miner's Lettuce? Are you letting it grow and go to seed in your garden?
